This scholarship program, established with a donation from Nationwide, provides scholarship awards to high-achieving black students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, a commitment to community involvement, and who are pursuing a degree in business, insurance, or a related field at an accredited college or university.


Howard University

Olivia Aiken is a senior Accounting major at Howard University. Olivia was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where her family resides. On campus, she is actively involved in organizations such as the National Association of Black Accountants, Alpha Kappa Psi, and the National Council of Negro Women. Olivia enjoys fashion, travel, and exercise. One day she hopes to own her own Accounting firm and health focused restaurant. She hopes to spread her knowledge of finance and wellness to minorities through her future endeavors.


Mercy College

Dzifa Amexo is a senior in the Business Honors Program at Mercy College, studying Finance and Data Analytics. On campus, Dzifa is involved in Mercy’s National Association for Black Accountants chapter, Rotaract, and serves as a Peer Mentor and Student Ambassador for the School of Business, and was previously a Residential Assistant. Studying abroad in South Korea has allowed Dzifa to gain a global perspective as she continues to explore opportunities outside of her comfort zone. Dzifa is passionate about giving back to the community and is enthusiastic about making an impact on the world in part by volunteering with organizations such as One Degree and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Dzifa was also recognized as a Tableau Public Featured Author in 2020. Raised in Moorestown, New Jersey, Dzifa enjoys karaoke, data visualization, traveling, mentoring, baking, and having brunch with friends and family.


Howard University

Amaya Causey is a senior Computer Information Systems Cybersecurity concentration from Los Angeles, California by way of Vancouver, Washington. Currently, she attends Howard University in Washington, D.C. At Howard, she has remained active in her community by joining The Howard University Step, Annex Step Team, Resident Assistant Program, and much more. In her free time, she enjoys stepping, hiking, watching anime, service, and exploring. Amaya currently has an internship with Boeing and is planning on going full time. Alongside receiving her masters.


Howard University

Bryanna Gabriel is a junior honors finance major from Newark, New Jersey and she currently attends Howard University. At Howard, she is a student leader within the School of Business Executive Leadership Honors Program as well a member of the Howard University Finance Club. She is interested in pursuing a career within finance because this industry allows her to build upon her natural given strengths and love for mathematics, while also continuing to bring more Black women representation to the field. She also is a proud co-founder of Newark’s Promise, a peer mentorship program that serves as an incubator for the youth of her hometown to empower and learn from one another. In her free time, she loves to spend time with family and friends, exercise, travel, watch basketball, and cheer for the Boston Celtics specifically!


Florida State University

Kahleel A. Gray is a junior at the Florida State University College of Business, pursuing a dual degree in Marketing and Management Information Systems. Kahleel is interested in Management Consulting, Market Research, and Data Analytics. He has a passion for solving problems and utilizing business to bridge the economic gap for people of color. During his freshman year, he served as an Orientation Leader, where he welcomed incoming students to Florida State. On campus, Kahleel is currently the President of the Florida State University Sports Analytics Club, Treasurer of the Black Student Union, and a member of the Case Competition Club, where he represents the university in international competitions alongside his peers. Raised in Miramar, Florida, he enjoys mountain biking, playing basketball, and cooking with his family and friends.


University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Xavier Nonez is a senior from Durham, North Carolina, majoring in Business Administration and minoring in Information Systems. He stays involved through various on-campus commitments such as working as an Office Assistant at Hinton James residence hall, serving as the Treasurer of the Mu Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and serving as the Co-President of the Minority Business Student Alliance. Xavier is interested in pursuing a career infused with business and tech. Last summer, he interned at MetLife as a Business Systems Analyst and this summer he worked as a financial analyst intern at Amazon. Xavier is thrilled to receive this scholarship and be a part of the ELC family.


Florida International University

Marquis Robinson is a student at Florida International University, pursuing a degree in Finance with a minor in Business Analytics, and graduating in December 2020. During this past summer he worked as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at UBS. Prior to UBS, Marquis had internship positions at Assurant and J.P. Morgan. His strong interest in leadership and diversity has led him to become involved with on and off-campus organizations such as the Phoenician Investment Fund, BLK Capital Management, and Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO). After graduation he hopes to work for a company that closely aligns with his values of excellence in client service, social responsibility, and team culture.


University of Pennsylvania

Nia Robinson is an incoming junior at the University of Pennsylvania. Nia is from Chicago, Illinois. Nia is studying Business Economics and Public Policy with a minor in Urban Education and Cognitive Science. Nia is the Founder and Executive Director of Penn Students for Students, a club that tutors court-ordered youth in Philadelphia. She is also a member of the Wharton Dean’s Undergraduate Advisory Board. Nia also is in From Cell to Home and volunteers regularly in her community. She is passionate about juvenile justice and education reform. Her hobbies include playing the violin, dancing, and watching Ted talks.


Spelman College

Macy Thames is a rising sophomore from Ellicott City, Maryland. She is majoring in International Studies with a minor in French and Anthropology at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Macy is involved in various organizations on campus such as the National Council of Negro Women, GlobeMed, The Collective Org. and Ignite.

She enjoys learning new cultures and ways of living through reading and art. Macy likes to express and seek diversity and meaning through creative avenues. As a career, Macy aspires to enforce a truly inclusive and aware work ethic in major global businesses. By doing this she hopes for them to better appreciate and influence people around the world.


Berea College

Gerald Thomas Jr. is a Cincinnati, Ohio native and rising senior at Berea College, studying technology & applied design with double minors in Business Administration and African & African American Studies. Gerald is a self-published author and founder of the social brand and podcast “Black & Educated,” which strives to push the importance of education and history within communities of color. Outside of education and business, Gerald loves to tend to his garden, and travel around the world to new historic sites. Upon graduation, Gerald is hoping to sign a publishing contract for his writings, while also pursuing his dream career within product innovation.
