The Alvaro L. Martins Scholarship was created in honor of The Executive Leadership Council’s first President and CEO and noted founding member.
The Alvaro L. Martins Scholarship is open to ambitious undergraduate Black male students who are enrolled in one of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
Dequane Nealy
Dequane Nealy is an electrical engineering major, and computer science minor at Howard University. On campus, Dequane is a member of the Terminator project, a student-led group creating a playable chess game in Python simulated by a robotic arm. In addition to being an invited speaker for conversations centered around equity in STEM education, in November 2021 Dequane became a Howard Legacy Ambassador for Michael B Jordan’s Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic to give a platform for HBCUs. Dequane strives to create access to opportunities for Black students, specifically in tech due to our lack of representation in the field.
Kahron Campbell
Kahron Campbell is a sports management major with a minor in communications at Bowie State University. Kahron participated in the CSCP Kappa League Mentoring Program (fourth through tenth grades) and has served as a volunteer at Food & Friends and the Capital Area Food Bank. Kahron attends First Baptist Church of Glenarden where he participates in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Chess Club, and Cooking for the King. He was raised in Landover, Maryland and enjoys football, playing video games, and hanging out with his friends and family. Kahron plans to become a sports agent, so that he can be an advocate for athletes and assist them in reaching their full potential.
Roderick Jackson
Roderick Jackson is a business administration major at North Carolina A&T State University. On campus, Roderick is on the drumline, in the North Carolina A&T State University band. He is also a part of the Alpha Beta RDO Inc. Roderick started his college career at Tennessee State University on-line after facing a pandemic. Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Roderick enjoys working hard, playing basketball, and hanging out with family and friends. Roderick plans to open several businesses, one to include a clothing line.
