2023 Bank of America Power to Soar Scholars
Sponsored by Bank of America, this scholarship is awarded to high-achieving undergraduate students enrolled in one of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) pursuing a degree in business, engineering, technology or related majors.
Brandon Brooks
Brandon Brooks is a finance major at North Carolina A&T State University, with a strong background in data entry and financial management. He has gained valuable work experience as a Data Entry Specialist at The Rose Project Consulting Inc. for three years. In addition, Brandon has been involved in financial work through his role with The Village Mentoring Inc., where he oversees various financial aspects such as budget approvals and denials, as well as budget creation. Brandon's commitment to academics is evident through his achievement of a 4.0 GPA during his first semester, which earned him a place on the Chancellor's List. His exceptional academic efforts also led to his induction into the Honors College. Beyond his academic accomplishments, Brandon is deeply engaged in community service, having accumulated over 50 hours of service since July 2022.
Josh Kyei
Josh Kyei is a math major at Morehouse College, driven by a passion for using his analytical skills in the fields of economics and data. He has gained experience through his internship as a project manager at HBCU Heroes, where he honed his organizational and leadership abilities. Currently, Josh is engaged in mathematical research focused on machine learning, demonstrating his commitment to exploring the intersections of mathematics and technology. His research experience allows him to apply his mathematical knowledge to real-world applications and stay at the forefront of innovative developments. Josh's contributions to fostering diversity and representation in STEM have been recognized through his receipt of the Black Gifted & Whole Foundation Scholarship award. This honor highlights his commitment to promoting the presence and success of black male LGBT+ individuals in STEM fields.
Ivaneisha Lee
Ivaneisha Lee is a computer science major at Howard University with a passion for software engineering and concentration in cyber security. Her academic pursuits are complemented by her involvement in various engineering clubs on campus, such as the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and the Google Student Developers Club. Ivaneisha has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, earning a place on the Dean's List every semester. To further enhance her knowledge and gain practical experience, she has completed internships with Cyborg Mobile LLC and Microsoft, immersing herself in real-world software engineering projects and gaining valuable industry insights. Beyond her academic pursuits, Ivaneisha values her family and cherishes spending time with her six younger siblings. Raised in rural southeast Louisiana, she brings a unique perspective and experiences that have shaped her character and drive for success.
Anthonia Odeyale
Anthonia Odeyale is pursuing an honors degree in finance at Howard University. As a student in the School of Business Executive and Leadership Honors Program (SBEL), Anthonia is dedicated to developing her leadership skills and academic prowess. Beyond her academic pursuits, Anthonia actively engages in volunteer work. She is involved with Challenge for Change, an organization that focuses on making positive impacts in the community. Additionally, she dedicates her time and skills to Junior Achievement, where she has the opportunity to inspire and educate young students about financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Anthonia also demonstrates her passion for sports and community involvement through her role as a manager with Howard University's men's basketball team.
Kolby Phillips
Kolby Phillips is a Marketing major studying at Texas Southern University. As a member of Tiger Nation, Kolby serves as the Senate Secretary in the Student Government Association where he is an advocate for the student body. He has gained valuable work experience from companies such as PwC and Atlantic Records. In the future, it is his goal to diversify Corporate America and provide opportunities to minority creatives. In his spare time, Kolby serves as Co-Founder of Dollars and Change Inc., a non-profit organization that teaches youth the importance of financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Additionally, he serves as a mentor and Praise and Worship leader at his church in Houston, TX. Some of his passions include helping others, hanging out with his friends, exploring different restaurants, and creating new memories.
Rahmon Scruggs
Rahmon Scruggs is pursuing a degree in Finance at Morehouse College. As the first person in his family to attend college, Rahmon carries the weight and responsibility of blazing a trail for future generations. Rahmon’s passion for finance led him to secure an internship with a venture capital firm called Longitude Capital in San Francisco last summer. This experience provided him with invaluable exposure to the world of finance and investment, further fueling his drive for success. In addition to his academic pursuits, Rahmon is actively involved in various ventures and community engagement. He serves as a real estate disposition agent for Inner Workings Property Solutions, utilizing his skills to navigate the real estate market. With his relentless work ethic, thirst for knowledge, and dedication to his community, Rahmon Scruggs is a shining example of what can be achieved through determination and perseverance.
