2023 Dr. Price Cobbs USAA Scholars
The Dr. Price Cobbs Scholarship, generously supported by USAA, was created in honor of Dr. Price Cobbs, a long-term strategic advisor and veteran of the U.S. Army. This scholarship is open to ambitious undergraduate students who are enrolled in an accredited four-year college including one of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
Destiny Daniel
Destiny Daniel, an outstanding advocate and civic leader, is pursuing her degree in public relations at Howard University. Destiny's impressive resume boasts a wide range of experiences in the nonprofit sector. She has worked and interned at 12 different nonprofits, including esteemed organizations such as the African American Mayors Association and the United Nations Association. Destiny has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills by serving on nine executive boards. Notably, she has held the position of President of the Zeta Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity and served as an SGA Senator.
Arthur Green
Arthur Green is pursuing a degree in Strategic Communication at Hampton University. Alongside his coursework, Arthur actively engages in various extracurricular activities and work experiences that contribute to his personal and professional development. Arthur has been involved with WHOV TV, gaining hands-on experience in the field of television production. He is also a member of the esteemed Hampton University Choirs and the Hampton University Gospel Choir: His Chosen Sounds. Arthur dedicates his time to the Hampton University Student Recruitment Team, where he plays a crucial role in promoting the university and its programs to prospective students. Arthur's leadership abilities are evident through his roles as Varsity Golf Team Captain, Jack and Jill Mobile Chapter Co-Chair, and Youth Leadership Mobile member.
Justin Green
Justin Green is pursuing an honors management major with a minor in economics at Howard University. He aspires to build a career in program management with a global company, leveraging his strong academic foundation and passion for business. He is a distinguished member of the School of Business Executive Leadership Honors Program, which highlights his exceptional leadership potential and commitment to personal and professional growth. Beyond the classroom, Justin showcases his talent and discipline as a member of Howard's Division 1 golf team. His exceptional performance on the team earned him the prestigious Rookie of the Year Award. Originally from Chesapeake, Virginia, Justin values spending quality time with friends and family. He finds joy in exploring new destinations, nurturing his love for travel.
Sydnee Haymore
Sydnee Haymore, a finance major at the University of Dayton, is passionate about pursuing a corporate finance career within the technology industry. Within the university community, Sydnee serves as a resident assistant, demonstrating her commitment to creating a positive living environment for her fellow students. Additionally, she holds important leadership positions as the Professional Director of the Women in Business organization and Co-Vice President of the Multi-Ethnic Business Leaders Program. Sydnee's financial acumen is further developed as a Financial Sector Analyst at the Davis Center for Portfolio Management. Sydnee takes pleasure in attending her school's basketball games, playing tennis and exploring new destinations through travel.
Willie Hurt
Willie Hurt, a student at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, is on a path to becoming a professional sports broadcaster. His dedication to his major in broadcast journalism and his involvement in various media platforms highlight his passion for the field. Alongside his studies, he is an active member of Playmakers at FAMU, a group that engages in lively discussions about collegiate and professional sports on the radio. During football and basketball seasons, Willie also has the opportunity to showcase his live broadcasting abilities, further enhancing his on-air experience. Willie serves as a news writer for FAMUAN, the school newspaper. This role not only allows him to contribute to campus journalism but also helps him build his portfolio and develop essential writing skills.
Master Keith
Master Keith, a student at Delaware State University, is a driven and dedicated individual pursuing a major in Law Studies and a minor in Business Administration. With a strong ambition to excel in his academic journey, Master Keith is constantly seeking opportunities to expand his knowledge and enhance his skill set. As a student of Law Studies, Master Keith is immersing himself in the intricacies of the legal field, developing a deep understanding of the principles and practices that govern it. Keith's determination and commitment to his education make him a promising student who is poised for success.
Robert Kelly
Robert Kelly is an honors Finance major, planning on pursuing a double minor in Spanish and Strategic Legal and Management Communications from Long Island, NY. Professionally, Robert is interested in Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Real Estate. On campus, Robert serves as the Freshman Representative for the School of Business Executive Leadership Honors program. In addition, Robert is on the Speech and Debate team, a member of the Finance and Operations committee for his university's chapter of Scholars of Finance, and a member of the Finance and Investment club. Robert embodies moral character and fortitude and has demonstrated that he can successfully manage leadership positions while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Robert enjoys writing poetry, debating, and doing community service in his free time. After graduating, Robert intends on going to law school.
Lauren Legardy
Lauren Legardy is an Economics major from Flossmoor, Il attending Spelman College. During her first semester, Lauren became heavily involved in the Atlanta community by hosting different donation drives, packaging materials for National Conventions, and mentoring children at the local Elementary School. Ms. Legardy serves as the Events Director of Spelman’s Business organization, serves as an intern for SGA and is a scholar of the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program. Last summer, she had the opportunity to participate in the Bain & Company FLA program and intern at Cleveland Avenue, where she expanded her network, presented a shark tank pitch, and gained insight into the finance department. She is a detail-oriented, organized, and interpersonal college student who aspires to work in the consulting and wealth management sector.
Devin Morton
Devin Morton is a finance major attending North Carolina A&T State University. Devin is interested in Corporate Treasury, Real Estate, and eventually becoming a Real Estate Investor. On campus, Devin is a general member of the Financial Management Association and Scholars of Finance. In addition to having his associate degree in Science, Devin has completed an internship at Delta Air Lines and won 2nd place in a Demand Forecasting Competition with Cisco. Raised in Sanford, North Carolina, Devin enjoys doing calisthenics, playing volleyball, and playing tennis in his free time. Devin plans to follow in his mother's footsteps and become a real estate investor one day.
Danae Smith
Danae Smith is majoring in Business Management with a minor in Marketing at Morgan State University. Dane aspires to be a brand and event manager. Beyond her academic pursuits, Danae is deeply involved in her community. From an early age, she has actively engaged in community service work, which has played a pivotal role in her personal and academic growth. Danae's well-rounded nature, combined with her hardworking and dedicated approach, sets her apart as a standout student.
Halia Morris
Halia Morris is a marine and environmental science major attending Hampton University. Raised in Huntsville, Alabama, Halia was exposed to the STEM field at an early age. She is a member of the Freddye T. Davy Honors College, and has been selected for the dean’s list. Halia has also interned with the Office of Naval Research. Halia wants to use her degree in marine and environmental science to study ecology and evolution in marine environments, hoping to teach others about her work and inspire sustainable living. In her free time, Halia enjoys reading, traveling, podcasts, movies, and mediation.
Isaiah Thompson
Isaiah Thompson is from St. Louis, Missouri, and is an honors student attending Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. Isaiah enjoys learning about the environment, engaging in physical activities, and being involved in community service activities, which has motivated him to become an environmental engineer. He has aspirations to earn a doctorate degree in environmental engineering for conducting research and directly applying his studies to his work. With the knowledge he gleans throughout his academic and professional journey, he hopes to mitigate the effects of climate change, discover different ways to provide fresh water to disadvantaged communities, and create new ways to store renewable energy.
Nia Westbrook
Nia Westbrook is a passionate honors marketing student from Howard University with proven leadership and project management skills. She is aspiring to pursue a career that would allow her to own her future and improve strategic efficiency through innovative solutions. Nia is seeking experience that would enable her to expand her business acumen and improve her skills by gaining strategic and financial insight on various operations.
Ryan Johnson
Ryan E. Johnson attends Tennessee State University (TSU) and is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. On campus, she is a member of the TSU Honors College and was selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of the TSU Freshman Institute, a program designed to improve leadership skills. She is also a recipient of the inaugural Future of Stem Scholars Scholarships. Ryan has worked with Power Construction as a Project Engineer Intern in Chicago, Illinois. Ryan is passionate about using her engineering skills to better her community through the development and use of sustainable materials for infrastructure projects.
Zaria Osimetha
Zaria Osimetha, a Dallas, Texas native, is a student at the University of Southern California where she is majoring in psychology. Zaria earned a spot on the dean’s list and was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She is a four-time recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards for volunteering over 900 hours helping to fight food insecurity, serving the homeless, and mentoring at-risk children. She has served as Black Student Union President and as a Jack and Jill Regional Teen Vice-President. Zaria’s proudest accomplishment is her founding of a 300-member social justice organization. She was awarded a Princeton Prize in Race Relations Certificate of Accomplishment for her efforts to advance racial equity and foster positive race relations within her community.
